Google Play New Android SDK Setup for AdMob ( AdSense )

Hello Mobile Application developers! Ya, Google has moved to a change and we developers will have to cope up with that change. To set up Admob in new updated SDK , we need to do some tasks. Few of them are tricky, so be with me and follow my instruction. I faced some problems and that ruined my few days to fix it. If you follow this , I hope you won't have to face the same way.

Previously, we used to use GoogleAdMobAdsSdk-6.4.1.jar in our application for monetization. But now we have to go up. Now, we don't need any .jar file but update our SDK. I would suggest to download a new one.

So, Let's start:

Task 1: Download the fresh and new Android SDK from Here. Make sure, you are using a computer with 64 bit, otherwise it won't show up the Android Virtual Device  ( AVD  ).

Now you need to make some updates.

Task 2: Open up eclipse from the Android SDK and go to Window > Android SDK Manager. Or, click on the icon shown in below image.

   A new window will show up SDK. Here we will make some updates. Look at the below images, and check those ( Which are installed in below images ) on your Android SDK Manager and click on Install x packages after accepting license agreement.

After installation, restart Eclipse. Now, we are done with installation.

Task 3: Now, go to your ADT bundle package on your PC and we need to copy a folder from there. Go to, ADT Bundle > SDK > Extras > Google > google_pay_services_libproject . Look at the file path at the below image. Copy the folder name google-play-services_lib.

Task 4: Done with copying? Now , we need to paste this folder on the project you are doing or the Application you are developing. Go to Eclipse and in project explorer paste this folder in to your project > libs. Now clear? Follow the below image.

Done with pasting? I guess thats easy! :3

Task 5: Now, we need to import that file. Look on the top left corner on your eclipse, click on File > Import > Android > Existing Android Code into Workspace . You need to import your full libs folder. Through this window, go to Workspace > Your Project > Libs . Select that and the click OK. Not clear yet? See, below screen shots.

After clicking on libs, click OK

Task 6: This very simple. Just check the imported file and click on finish. we are almost done! Below image will help you more,

Now, if the Imported file show an error and ask for number of SDK in L ( Android Lollipop  ) preview, go there and make it L in the place of 8. Like below image:-

Task 7: Now, go to your AndroidManifest.xml file, We need to add some permission for showing admob Ads. Add bellow codes after <application />

<meta-data android:name="com.google.android.gms.version"
        android:value="@integer/google_play_services_version" />

Then, add another activity code, just after the first activity. Not clear? just copy below codes as the image suggests place:

android:configChanges="keyboard|keyboardHidden|orientation|screenLayout|uiMode|
screenSize|smallestScreenSize"
/>

Task 8:  Now, we will place the add codes in our main xml file. Open up , res/layout/activity_main.xml. See below image. Place <com.google.android.gms.ads.AdView> xml tag as show below and replace, adUnitId with your adUnitId , generated from admob.com

go to admob.com and generate an add, get adUnitId

Task 9: You XML might be showing some errors till now. Add xmlns:ads = "http..." line on the <ScrllView> or <RelativeLayout> tag. The errors will be gone!

Task 10: Go to the MainActivity.java file. And couple of imports at the top :

import com.google.android.gms.ads.AdRequest;
import com.google.android.gms.ads.AdView;

Now, add couple more lines  into onCreate method:

AdView adView = (AdView)this.findViewById(R.id.adView);

AdRequest adRequest = new AdRequest.Builder().build();
adView.loadAd(adRequest);

Well, I guess we are done! :D

There the ads should be shown up! Like the below image: -

 Task 11: If yet not shown, you can go right click on Your Project > Android and select things like below image:

Differences Between Programmers and Coders

People related to programming and coding often make mistakes or misuse the words Coders and Programmers by not knowing properly. So, question is

What are the differences between programmers and coders?

Let me explain couple of situations first and then I will relate the Programmer and Coder according to their action in that situations.

Situation 1: A bus was going on a road and faced a tunnel in front. The tunnel is just couple of inches smaller than the bus. The bus stacked for just couple of inches. If the bus were couple of inches smaller it could have gone easily through the tunnel. Now, we called a programmer and a coder to solve this problem.

Coder: He decided to hire a crane and solve the problem. He took  two hours and spent 1000 USD for a crane. The crane came and took the bus over the tunnel. Problem solved!

Programmer: A programmer came to the spot and observed the situation. He saw, if the bus could be made couple of inches little it could easily go through the tunnel. He came to the wheels of bus and left the air go into it. Because of releasing air from wheels, the bus came down and were able to go through the tunnel. He saved both time and money.

Situation 2: Teacher assigned a assignment for a programmer and a coder. Design a CMS ( Content Management System )

Coder: A coder will find out the pseudo code or blueprint of CMS anyhow and code according to that blueprint.

Programmer: A programmer won't look for blueprint or pseudo code. He'd love to design the logic and full work process of the CMS ( Content Management System ). After the sketch and designing he will start coding for this project.

Trust Me, I'm a programmer

Now, I guess you are clear about the differences between a programmer and a coder. A coder is who codes and doesn't need to think about anything else like logic, code efficiency etc.
But a programmer is someone who is not just a coder but along with coding he creates logic, design logic, thinks, think about the output, thinks about the code efficiency, think to make it better, think to make it working and so on.

A programmer is not in the same queue with a coder, he makes his specification with,
- better thinking
- managing the project
- not just code but doing also technical specification
- quality of work/project
- quality of code
and so on.

What are actually taught in computer science and Engineering ( CSE ) ?

I completed my bachelor ( B. Sc )  in Computer Science & Engineering from Southeast University. That was not a huge university but was among the good few private varsities. Though, they have good name and fame for Computer Science & Engineering department as legendary programmer Shariar Manzoor is a important part of that department. But, when I was having my degree there I found more faculties who are terrific in teaching rather than Shahria Manzoor!   I'd like to mention KM Hasan Tomal and Rezwan-Al-Islam Khan's name here!

So, the point is “What are actually taught in computer science and Engineering ( CSE ) ”?

First of all, I would like to say couple of funny story about what common people on the teaching of Computer Science & Engineering!

One: My house owner once came to me for a problem solution of her Facebook account and I was giving her solution. Then, she asked me about my education and current situation. I said, I'm having graduation in Computer Science & Engineering. Then, she asked me, “What you learn there? Opening up a computer? Fixing the parts? Do u know how to open up a computer and fix it?”

I almost got shocked, listening to her! Then, I explained!

Two: I had a friend called SJ. One day she gave me a picture of her and said to edit that. That picture was taken by VGA camera maybe as I saw the quality of the picture was very poor! Then, I told her that I can't do much about this picture. She replied me, “Then, what did you learn from CSE? ” I didn't have much words to say her after listening that!

When a higher secondary passed boy think to get admission in Computer Science & Engineering, he gets the idea that he will be able to do so much thing after passing! But is that true? From me, the answer is “NO”! In computer science education you will only learn 'THEORY' but reality is different! Though you will have a lot of 'lab' courses but ironically those are theory too!

At first semester of University, I had few subjects like, English, Physics, Math and Programming Language C. In C, I was taught the basic of C programming. Nobody ever told me to learn more by myself, but deeper learning is the main thing! There I got a question me, if I have to learn it by myself and nobody tells me that then what am I doing in university? I could learn that at home too!

Later, I faced subjects like, Accounting, Chemistry, Economy, Circuits, Networking, Statistics, more Mathematics etc. Among those two Physics, three English, six mathematics were included!

The most important subjects are yet to come. Those are like, Algorithm one, Algorithm two, Database Design, Operating System, Microprocessor, Artificial Intelligence, Data Logic Design, Software Engineering and Information System Design, Computer Architecture, Programming Language Java one, Graphics Design &  Animation, Image Processing, Web Languages and few more I can't remember the name!

So, the burning question is what did I learn from these subjects? Ans is a bit typical! In algorithm and Artificial Intelligence  courses, I learned few search algorithms, sorting algorithms. Though we were not that much good to write programmer for these algorithms! We used to copy from Internet to submit assignments. In JAVA course, I also learned nothing! Later, our teacher ( KM Hasan Tomal ) took an additional course on JAVA which was not included in course outline. In there I got basic on JAVA, thanks to him! In, operating system classes with Rezwan, I got passionate on Linux and that was good for me too.

And, learning one line, two line, one thing, two thing from one four month course my graduation on Computer Science completed. Remember, exams and university test your memory, not learning! So, I got passed in every courses reading just before exam night and I learnt nothing!


During university life, I used to write blogs on different platform and founded a blog too. There, I came to know I can find anything on Internet to learn. I started learning HTML ( HyperText Markup Language ) and did that in six hours. Then, gradually learned CSS ( Cascading Style Sheet ) . Then, I got passionate and almost addicted on PHP ( Hypertext PreProcessor ). Using database knowledge( which I learned from university database course ), I use to make simple projects by PHP and one day I dreamed of making a company for software! Which I started end of 2013 and name it Carnivalbd IT Team. Now, I'm going with it and trying to make it bigger! So, now if I make question what I learned in university and what I am doing now is a bit different!

Point is, you will get few guidelines in varsity but you have to learn by yourself what you want to do! University will give you academical identity, a certification and sometime inspiration ( by good teachers ) but will never feed you! You have to find your own way! There you might feel less importace of reading in a university! When I decided to study in Computer Science & Engineering for being a Software Engineer I picked up a medium cost private varsity to save some money and for doing this ( Walking on my created way ) on my own way! I knew somehow, varsity can't teach me much but give a guideline to walk on my dreamed way!
